Today, man today was the most “Friday” Thursday I’ve ever had. I nanny for this beautiful and very busy family that consists of three blonde girls and a puppy. They keep me on my toes, today specifically. Lunches were thrown together, hair not brushed, sunscreen forgotten, and dogs left outside.
As I began my third loop around the town, after a slew of drop offs pick ups, realizing I probably could have made it to the Canadian border. I signed deeply and the Honda slowly climbed up the hill. Then, in my rearview mirror I saw the youngest flapping her arms, as if she was taking flight from her car seat. She claimed that I needed help getting up the hill, where she would fly us up. And I almost had to pull over I was laughing so much.
I did not wake up today thinking the greatest lesson I would learn that day would be from a three year old flapping her arms in the back seat in efforts to get us home. But when do you ever wake up knowing where or who will teach you a lesson or new perspective? And how beautiful is that just to think about?
Its very easy for us to get wrapped up in ourselves. Our struggles can sometimes consume us. Our schedules control us. It is important to step back from our daily situations and take a look around to those near us. Extend a hand,or a flapping one, to a sibling. Offer to drive them or make their lunch for the next day. Or something as simple as letting the frustrated driver out from that crazy left that your mother says never ever to take.
And I’ll speak behalf on my soul, that we feel GOOD when we do GOOD for others! Its why that saying or something similar, has been slapped on sweatshirts, magnets, and community service pamphlets.
We all have days that need a little wing flapping from the back seat to get through it. But try and give some wing flapping to someone else, because there is always ALWAYS someone out there having a more “Friday” Thursday than you. Trust me on this one.
“Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it’s at the end of your arm, as you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others. ” Audrey Hepburn
