This is gonna be short and sweet, much like Thanksgiving break.
When Thanksgiving rolls the focus is food, but let me throw some numbers around while you think about mashed potatoes later.
360,000 babies are born every day
66 million update their status every morning
1,035 books are published every day
8,070,428 cups of coffee are brewed at Starbucks each day
80 million people post on Instagram
16 million college students crawl out of their cars and dorms to attend class each day
The point of these numbers is to highlight that there is a lot of us.
And on this day, November 22, 2018, there are currently 7.53 billion people living and breathing on this plant.
That’s a lot of people doing a lot of things man. So, let’s talk about all these people, specifically, your people.
7.53 billion people means there’s a lot of people out here vibing on planet Earth.
There is more people beyond 500 Salisbury Street.
There is more people beyond the edge of the Atlantic.
And yet, despite all these people, that are vibing here now or maybe vibed early, your people are here now.
You know what I am talking about, your people. The people who will switch your laundry, hype you up, drive the distance, lend you money if needed, challenge you, and love you. Your people.
Let’s be thankful for the people sitting next to you today at the dinner table.
Be thankful for your “one phone call away” people.
Be thankful for your “you challenge me to be better” people.
Be thankful for your “you need to eat something, go to bed, and take care of it tomorrow” people.
Be thankful for your “you got me where I am today” people.
Be thankful for your “I’m getting dunks, what do you want?” people.
Be thankful for your “I will take care of it, and no you don’t owe me” people.
Be thankful for your “I am the person I am because of you” people.
Be thankful for your “I love you” people.
I have learned through my childhood and collegehood, that it takes a damn village somedays.
So be incredibly thankful for the people who embody your village. Be thankful for the people in your corner. The people who wipe off the blood, dust you off and kick you back into the ring.
We are happiest giving. For thoughts and actions of gratitude to those we love and to those we don’t know have been scientifically proven to make the human brain be in a positive state. Seriously, when you think and give in a positive manner your brain releases dopamine and serotonin. And these neurochemicals will boost your mood. I promise that there is some science backing my hippy blog okay?
Always give and thank your people. Sometimes it is just that simple.
And let me conclude with some numbers, to show that the world is always smaller than we think.
To the roughly 130 people reading this post today, yes hi this means you, I challenge you to have a couple gratitude moments.
Text, call or tell a person in your life that you are grateful for their presence.
For every song, you listen to on the radio think of something you are thankful for.
Surprise visit your grandparents or neighbor, just because you appreciate them.
Do or say something that comes from a place of gratitude. I can assure you that if you begin to make these acts of gratitude a habit, you won’t just be thankful mindset on Thanksgiving.
